2006 Toucan Wines - Toucan Cuvee

(Estate Zinfandel & Petite Sirah & Old Vines Carignane)

Our 2006 Toucan Cuvee is a blend of 55% Estate Zinfandel and 9% Estate Petite Sirah, plus 36% of Old Vine Carignane from the Evangelho Vineyard. Both the estate Zinfandel and Petite Sirah were cold soaked and spent the year in a combination of new and second year barrels and was blended with our 2006 Carignane made from rare old-vine Carignane grapes grown in Contra Costa County and harvested on September 19^th. The Carignane vines that produced this fruit were planted in the 1880’s in the beautiful Evangelho family vineyard, and are some of the oldest vines growing in California. Once the three wines were blended the Cuvee continued to age in fine new and second year barrels until bottling at the end of February of 2008. A bright ruby color; medium bodied wine with bright berry and vanilla-toast nose; and tastes of fresh raspberry fruit and a soft mouth feel.
